Check 4 - Data Validation

Introduction

The data validation check ensures that the data in the Groups and Headings are valid by checking that it is compatible or compliant with the lookup lists in the receiver's database, and also ensures that the data is of a correct type. (e.g. DT, 2SF etc)

Procedure

The primary method to check data types and units is to review any Data does not match Type errors in the checker file.

A secondary way to check that the data is of a correct type, open the AGS Data Import log in a text editor. If there was a data type mismatch (e.g. a field specified as a number and the data contains a text) then the data will not be imported and a descriptive message should have been written to the import log.

If there are such errors when importing, the AGS Data Import log should be sent to the Data Generator for the data to be corrected.

The validity of the data value for fields with a pick list can be checked by reviewing errors in the AGS Data Import log and with the Lookup List Check Tool log. These logs will list all the values in the project database that had an error with finding the respective lookup value. Each error message specifies exactly what the erroneous value is, as well as exactly where, by listing the key fields and values of the record where the value exists. If errors were found, the log should be sent to the supplier to correct.

Note that some that the need for data to comply with a lookup list is not always of importance.
