How does the SELECTserver (hosted) license work?

Perpetual License and SELECT Subscription

This license type will not expire and should be purchased together with the SELECT Subscription. With the SELECT Subscription, the license has access to SELECTserver licensing (flexible network type, countrywide license pool), support, version upgrades and maintenance. The SELECT Subscription is paid annually. If the SELECT Subscription is allowed to expire the license becomes locked to a single computer (node-locked), it stays at the version available at the time of the SELECT subscription expiry and support is not provided.

Bentley SELECT doesn't use dongles and is a network-style license that may be used anywhere within the assigned country and assigned organisation. You may install gINT on many PCs within your organisation, activate the licenses and when gINT is used the usage times are recorded.

When the PC is online the usage data is uploaded to Bentley's SELECT web server.  The PC must be online at least once every 7 days to upload usage data.  We count the number of unique computers that open the software in a 10 minute period (e.g. 9:00 am to 9:10 am). We round up the start time for each session to the start of the next ten minutes and ignore any use that is less than 10 minutes in duration. If usage exceeds this threshold additional Perpetual Licenses should be purchased. If additional Licenses are not purchased, Bentley Systems will issue an invoice for Quarterly Term Licenses (QTL) at the end of the quarter based on the highest usage hour in the quarter.

If you need to take a PC offline for more than 7 days, then you can check out a license for a period up to the end of your current SELECT subscription, e.g. 12 months.  We recommend this is avoided since it permanently occupies the license reducing the pool available to other users.
